grand canyon national park airport terminal building
LEA is currently working with the Arizona Department of Transportation and Airport Aviation staff to update the airport master plan and design a new airport terminal facility. LEA has completed schematic design drawings for the new terminal facility which will serve both commercial airlines and existing air tour operations. The terminal building was designed by LEA Architects to have the capability to incorporate a future monorail and railroad station which would make the Grand Canyon National Park Airport a true multi-nodal transportation center. LEA worked together with the Airport staff to establish the architectural design of the terminal. The architecture of the new terminal facility relates to the sleek aesthetic of aircraft and flight dynamics while at the same time utilizing natural materials to harmonize with the surrounding natural environment. The terminal facility incorporates numerous sustainable design strategies including natural daylighting and views, rain water recycling, solar photovoltaics, solar hot water, as well as utilization of local and regional materials. The project is being designed by LEA to receive a minimum of LEED Silver Certification.
