LEA worked with the Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA) and the City of Yuma in designing the joint-use Yuma Readiness and Community Center located in Yuma, Arizona. The facility serves as an Armory for the Army National Guard and multi-use community center for the City of Yuma. The 27,000 s.f. facility features a 7,500 s.f. drill hall/gym, two large classrooms, administrative offices, commercial kitchen, weapons vaults and unit storage, locker rooms, physical fitness room and vehicle maintenance bays. The facility incorporates state-of-art energy management system and energy efficient evaporative cooling in the Drill Hall along with overhangs and window shading devices to minimize heat gain in the facility. LEA-Architects provided programming, design and engineering and worked closely with DEMA , City of Yuma and the Contractor during design and construction in developing and maintaining project budgets, while providing a joint-use facility that integrates with surrounding City of Yuma facilities and a future park which will surround the ultimate build-out of the facility.
